Jason Dodd was given the Saints captaincy by Dave Jones.

But he will not be doing his old boss any favours if he leads Saints out for the first time in three months on Sunday

Dodd has played as a substitute in recent weeks after missing the Christmas and New Year programme with a calf injury but he could start tomorrow with Anders Svensson (ankle) a major doubt and Rory Delap (knee) and David Prutton (cup tied) definitely out.

Paul Telfer could move into midfield, giving Saints the benefit of Dodd's vast experience at right back.

But Dodd is confident that Saints can reach the semi-finals for the first time since 1986, whether he plays or not.

He said: "The draw has opened up really well for us. It's given us a lot of home ties and we keep getting the results.

"Wolves at home is a great draw from our point of view.

"They're one of the more entertaining sides in the First Division but we really feel as though we've got a great chance of going a long way.

"I had great memories of working with Dave, he was great for me.

"I'm pleased that he's bounced back from his disappointments by getting them into the play off positions.

"I would love to see him go out in the FA Cup quarter finals but go on to reach the Premiership with Wolves. They blew it last year but they look as though they've learnt from that."

Dodd was in the last Saints side to play an FA Cup quarter-final under Dave Merrington (and watch out for Dave's Wolves scouting report in tomorrow's 12-page Echo FA Cup supplement!)

A cup run that began with a 3-0 third round win against Portsmouth at The Dell ended with a 2-0 defeat against eventual winners Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Matt Oakley and Franny Benali are the only other survivors from the 1995-96 squad that lost that Monday night Sky-televised clash.

So how does the present squad compare?

"We'll only know how good we are at the end of the season when we look at the league table," added Dodd. "We've had a few hiccups recently and still need a few wins, but we look as though we should finish in the top ten."
