IF YOU haven't yet had the good fortune to see one of Fareham Musical Society's most talented leading ladies in action, don't miss the forthcoming production of the classic musical Oklahoma - it could be your last chance for quite a while.

Katie Bushell from Fareham, who was this year nominated for Best Actress in the Daily Echo Curtain Call awards for her role in Irene, takes centre stage for the last time for at least two years.

Accomplished singer and dancer Katie, who plays the feisty Laurey in one of Rodgers and Hammerstein's greatest collaborations, will be leaving Fareham to go to Middlesex University to study for a teaching certificate in drama.

She says: "I joined Fareham Musical Society when I was just 16, so it's been a huge part of my life. Even after doing my Performing Arts Degree in Hertfordshire, I came back and rejoined the group.

"I very much hope that once I qualify to teach, I can work in a local school back in the south so I'll be able to combine my love of performing with teaching it."

Oklahoma is set in Indian territory in America and tells of the love wrangle between Laurey, her beau Curly and the despicable Jud Fry. It includes well-known tunes such as Oh What a Beautiful Mornin', The Surrey with the Fringe on Top and, of course, Oklahoma.

March 11-15, Ferneham Hall, Fareham. Performance: 7.30pm (Saturday matinee at 2.30pm). Tickets: from £7. Box office: 01329 231942.
