The arts took centre stage for a week at Perin's School, Alresford.

The principle behind the Annual Arts Festival organised by assistant head, Colin Forrest-Charde, is to involve as many students as possible and give them the opportunity to perform in any artistic field they would like to try.

This year must be counted as a huge success with over 700 participants.

Author, James Riordan, led poetry workshops and creative writing forums. Trestle Theatre offered work with masks and the Pilot Theatre Company members advised on script-writing, complemented by dramatic performances from the pupils.

A competition to design a triptych, using the influence of the artist, Kandinsky, was won by a group of 10 students and the head of art and design, Miss Billington.

Many other prizes were awarded for individual and group entries from senior and junior pupils in music and drama

An inter-schools dance competition organised by the head of dance Donna Brown was won by Perin's pupils. Luke Townsend, Tim Bartlett, Rob Day and Sam Jeffries, with their choreography and performance of "What do you do?"

The boys were also declared overall winners of the Perin's Arts Festival.

Other teams entering were from Mountbatten, Romsey, Wildern and Redbridge.
