GENERATION II's march to the Southampton table tennis Premier league title continued with a closely fought 6-4 win over Waterside A.

The challengers put out all their big guns in county team-mates Mark Butler and Lee Dredge, alongside Southampton champion Christos Hannides, but still didn't have enough to topple the league leaders.

Hampshire champion Graham Toole and Victor Imiseev led the way, winning twice each, against a double from Dredge.

Snows A kept up their faint hopes of the title with an 8-2 win against Snows B, for whom Robin Plunkett was in outstanding form with a double.

With Waterside B losing, Alpha B took the advantage to go top of Division 1 with an easy 9-1 over Alpha D. Chris Marshall went to three in all of his games, beating Alan McAlpine.

Waterside B crashed to the "Butts" of Hedge End A 6-4, with former Hampshire junior champion Chris Butt recording another hat-trick.

A maximum from reserve Mark Waughman steered Snows E to a 6-4 win over Alpha C.

Snows F held on to second place in Division 2 after a 9-1 win against lowly Four Ts B with Mark Waughman and Keith Hewitt both unbeaten.

Woolston B just managed a 6-4 win over NF Nalgo. Match of the night saw Colin Campbell lose narrowly to Flemming Alison 21-18, 19-21, 19-21.

Four Ts C maintain their lead at the top of Division 3, this time at the expense of unfortunate Hospitals who were again unable to field a full team.

Simmarians, still the only unbeaten side in this division, returned a 7-3 win over Waterside J.

Ordnance Survey B were held to draw by Alpha E with Paul May winning all three in straight games as Dave Wray made a rare appearance to beat John Money.

Alpha F played two matches last week and were unsuccessful in both. In the first, postponed from December, they went down 3-7 to Pirelli B and in the second they lost 2-8 to Southampton West C, with both David McBeath and Dominic Cheeseman unbeaten.

Southampton West A, still keeping fairly well ahead of the field, overwhelmed lowly four T's D 9-1, with Brian Gange beating Mark Knowles to gain Four T's consolation game.
