SHROVE Tuesday has been a red-letter day on the Brockenhurst calendar for generations, with parents passing their best batter-tossing secrets on to their children.
This year was no exception.
At 3.15pm Brookley Road filled with a mixture of toddlers and mums, Brockenhurst Primary pupils and local firefighters - all debating the virtues of Scotch pancakes over mother's, cast iron frying pans over aluminium.
Business in Brockenhurst was put on the back burner for an hour while the traditional races ran their course down the high street to the Watersplash.
Top Toddler was Thomas Blayden who ran with mum Kirstie. Charley May just pipped Charlotte Codd at the tape to win the Infant Girls trophy.
Mabu Matysik was the fleetest of Infant Boys, and 10-year-old Jack Tidman took the Junior Boys award.
l Members of the emergency services dashed through a Hampshire supermarket yesterday, but there was no cause for alarm.
Asda staged a pancake race involving the police, Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service and representatives from its own staff.
The relay event was held in the foyer of the Asda store in Maynard Road, Totton.
