THREE of the biggest names in British jazz join Southampton Youth Jazz Orchestra for a unique performance of big band music at the Turner Sims Concert Hall on Sunday.

Saxophonist Jason Yarde, trumpeter Sean Corby and drummer Rod Youngs are current, or have been, members of the acclaimed group Tomorrow's Warriors and their concert with the SYJO celebrates the music of two legendary big bands - Jazz Jamaica All Stars and Jazz Warriors.

Southampton Youth Jazz Orchestra was formed in 1998 and is made up of the best young jazz musicians in the Southampton area. Under the leadership of Dan Mar Molinero, SYJO has become one of the most successful and creative organisation of its type in the UK.

In 1999 they came second in the prestigious National Youth Jazz Festival at London's South Bank Centre and completed a successful tour of Boston and New York. More recently, they have toured Cuba. Their Turner Sims concert is their latest collaboration with major British jazz artists following concerts in previous years with Julian Joseph, Guy Barker and Andy Sheppard. AW
