EVERY child has memories of banging on saucepans and biscuit tin lids.
But the potential in Jake Dore was spotted from an early age. He has swapped his wooden spoons for a pair of drumsticks with competition-winning results.
Jake, 11, has scooped the national title of Young Drummer of the Year after beating off competition from over 300 other hopefuls.
Jake, of Gregory Lane, Durley, impressed judges at the national finals in Birmingham after a two-minute drum-off and interview.
The Wyvern Technology College pupil said he was stunned. "I was just amazed and really surprised. It was good playing in front of the audience."
As part of his prize Jake has already performed in front of a national audience by appearing on Blue Peter and has been invited to play at a national event with the country's top drummers.
Proud mum Maria Dore said his success was well deserved. She said: "It was wonderful when he won, particularly when you saw the high standard of the other competitors who were all older than him. He has always been a very rhythmical child and practices hard so it was great to see the hard work pay off."
She added that his grandfather James McHaffie, who had passed away, would have been very proud."
