Does lightning strike twice? That is the question hanging over the second crunch derby in successive weeks between Ventnor, second bottom of Hampshire Two and runaway unbeaten leaders Isle of Wight.

David Ball's side upset the applecart on Sunday by dismissing their deadly Wootton foes from the Hampshire Worthington Bowl 13-12 in a terrific match and that has given them a significant psychological edge as the pair clash again at Watcombe Bottom.

Victory for the visitors will guarantee them promotion to Hampshire Division One, but nothing will please the south islanders more than to prevent that from happening.

Island coach Richard Beardsall admits that his side needed that "wake up call," and that could spell danger for Ventnor, in desperate need of a league victory to climb away from the two-side relegation trap door.

"Last week was Ventnor's final - I said that to my side before the game and so it proved. Every club is proud and you play at your best when you are struggling and I expect nothing else from David and his side against us.

"It is an instant chance for 'revenge' but cup and league derbies are very different. Should be a real cracker of a game."

Fawley are in good shape to join them in the return to Hampshire One and can stamp that authority when they travel to almost certain relegation side Portcastrians, especially as one of their rivals - either Ellingham & Ringwood or Alresford - can fall by the wayside as they meet at Picket Post.

In Hampshire Division Three, Paxton Pumas' chances of promotion will rely heavily on whether they can beat Overton while Stoneham Park can strengthen their mid-table position with victory at bottom-side Chineham.
