Tim Sherwood, Pompey's latest signing, has got one thing in common with Saints fans - a big problem with Glenn Hoddle.

Spurs fan Sherwood should make his Pompey debut against Grimsby tomorrow but, after signing this week, could not resist another pop at the man every Saints fan loves to hate.

Sherwood's move to Fratton Park came six months after the beginning of a bitter feud with Hoddle and fittingly, his last game in a Tottenham shirt was a 3-1 defeat against Saints Reserves in front of Hoddle at St Mary's last week.

Back in July, the Spurs vice-captain, pictured, effectively ended his White Hart Lane career by accusing the former Saints boss of lacking ambition.

At the time he said: "We are a million miles away from winning the championship. No money has been made available to buy the top stars that you need to become genuine challengers.

"I believe that if he is given the free rein that other managers at top clubs are allowed, then he will bring success to Spurs. That's why I think Hoddle should be confronting the club's owners and asking for the investment we need."

Sherwood also claimed that Spurs were turning into 'a nursery club'.

He added: "Let's be frank - Sol Campbell was right to quit Tottenham for Arsenal and surely no one in their right mind would say any different."

Earlier this season Eric Hall, Sherwood's agent, accused Hoddle of making the midfielder suffer for those comments. Sherwood himself told The Sun: "I'm amazed that someone can let their personal feelings get in the way of putting out the best possible team for Tottenham."

And, after agreeing to join Pompey until the end of the season, Sherwood admitted that he was glad to get away from the former England maestro.

He said: "There are plenty of things I could say about Glenn Hoddle and if I said there were no hard feelings I'd be lying. It's nice to feel wanted again but I don't regret saying what I said in the summer.

"It's been a frustrating few months because I knew even before the season started that no matter what I did I wasn't going to get a game in the first team.

"I've tried to remain professional and have carried on training hard. Whenever I've played for the reserves I've given it my best shot. I did everything I could to win my place back but it was never going to happen."

Sherwood has not played first team football since April but should be involved against Grimsby at some stage tomorrow after agreeing to join Pompey until the end of the season.

It's the beginning of a new month and a new career for the former Blackburn skipper, who is 34 on Sunday.

Sherwood, who won three England caps, added: "The important thing now is not to dwell on the past and just to look forward and I would like to thank Harry Redknapp for giving me the chance to resurrect my career here."

Redknapp said: "I've been after Tim Sherwood all season. He's a leader and a winner and he knows what it's like to win promotion to the Premiership."

Yakubu Ayegbeni is expected to make his home debut but Pompey are still without Arjan De Zeeuw (knee), Gianluca Festa (knee), Steve Stone and Gary O'Neil (hamstring).
