TENNIS ace Harriet Piercy is celebrating after taking two medals in the prestigious British Universities Sports Association championships in Bath.

The Winchester star, who is currently in her first year studying at Loughborough University, was victorious in the doubles with team-mate Claire Hamilton and then followed that up with silver in the singles.

In the doubles semis they crushed Loughborough's Lucy Easters and Abbie Hodge, before being matched against the awesome duo of Nicola Trinder and Katherine Laidler.

Trinder has the pedigree of playing main draw doubles at Wimbledon, but could not derail Piercy and Hamilton as they took the first set 7-5.

The second was also close but they clung on for a 6-3 win and a straight sets victory.

In the singles Piercy dropped an early set to Bath's Emily Quin before taking on Exeter's Charlotte Wallace in the quarter-finals. Wallace, who has a world ranking, took the first set 7-5, but Piercy powered back to take the next two sets 6-2, 6-3.

She then produced a brutal display in the semis, handing out another beating to Loughborough team-mate Laidler 6-1, 6-0.

In the final Piercy was up against world ranked Annabel Blow, and despite making a strong comeback in the second set, she lost 6-2, 1-6, 6-1.

She is hoping to improve on an excellent 2002 in which she starred for the Hampshire women's team, winning 13 out of 15 games in the summer county week and four out of six in the winter league.
