VICTIMS of cycle crime are invited to a Southampton police station to see if they can spot their stolen bike.

Officers are preparing to display up to 50 recovered cycles at Shirley police station next week in the hope of reuniting them with their owners. The pedal cycles -- mostly mountain bikes - were found by officers at a house in the Millbrook area on Friday January 24.

DC Tony Birr, leading the investigation, said: "About half a dozen of them are in one piece but many of the others have been dismantled so there are quite a few frames and wheels to identify."

"We believe there are between 40 and 50 in total, and that they could have been stolen from anywhere across the Southampton area - most probably in the last five months.

"It would be nice to return the bikes to their rightful owners."

DC Birr has written to bike theft victims already, but anyone who has had a bike stolen in the city over the past six months is invited to attend the station to see if they can identify their lost cycle.

The times and dates for viewings at Shirley police station are: Monday, February 3, 3pm to 8pm; Thursday, February 6, 2003 3pm to 8pm, and Saturday, February 7, 2003 10.30am to 1pm.
