GOSPORT BOROUGH are breathing fire down the necks of Jewson Wessex League leaders Eastleigh after a 3-1 win at Moneyfields last night.

Mick Marsh's men are now just three points adrift of the Ten Acres top dogs having extended their unbeaten league run to 13 games - a dozen of which have reaped maximum points.

A poor kick from keeper Geoff Sim invited Lee Mould to give Moneyfields a 17th-minute lead, but Borough were level in a flash courtesy of a Perry Holland corner bundled home by Steve Watt.

Kev Youngs' long-range special put Borough in front, but the Money men could have equalised had James Dunk connected properly in front of a gaping goal.

Holland lashed in Borough's third from a 75th-minute corner and Moneyfields' misery was complete when player-manager Calvin Hore received a second yellow card for dissent.

Lymington & New Milton leapfrogged Wimborne into third place with a 3-0 victory at Portland courtesy of Leigh Phillips (2) and Steve Strong. The Dorset hosts had Andy Turrell dismissed for two cautionable offences when they were one goal down.

Cowes Sports made it four points out of the last six with a 3-0 home success over relegation favourites Whitchurch.

Lawrence Edmondson, Danny Mew and Darren Powell sealed the Islanders' first win since December 21.

Downton trudged home 2-0 losers from Hamble ASSC, where Joe Partridge and Tes Edin dealt out their punishment.

In the JWL Cup, Totton have only a slender 1-0 lead to take to Bournemouth Poppies in the quarter-final, second leg. Darren Curtis bagged the only goal in a below-par performance from the Testwood Park club.

Brockenhurst's 46-year-old manager Pete Moore played the whole 90 minutes for the injury-ravaged Badgers in their 5-2 JWL Cup defeat at Bemerton.

Dave Morley and Martin Jones (penalty) kept the Foresters in touch, but they were outgunned by Keith Richardson, Neil Cole (2), Ian Chalk and an own goal.

Salisbury City laboured past Hampshire League outfit Laverstock 3-1 in the Salisbury Hospital Cup - Callum Burt, Scott Bartlett and Darren Crook on target.

WIMBORNE keeper Nick Hutchings is going to get a shot at the big time after being invited for trials at Premiership giants Chelsea.

The 17-year-old stopper will travel to west London next month to train with Claudio Ranieri's title-chasers having been spotted by Blues scout and local goalkeeping coach Antonio Infante.

Corfe Hills student Hutchings is the second Wessex League starlet to get an invite to Stamford Bridge, Lymington and New Milton striker Kevin Gill spending two days training at Chelsea last October.

But, although Magpies boss Paul Arnold is rooting for his young prospect to flourish, he hopes Hutchings will take the experience in his stride.

Arnold said: "I've spoken to Nick about going to Chelsea and he's just got to enjoy the experience of being there and training with quality players. If he doesn't get taken on he shouldn't be disappointed because not many players even get the chance he's got.

"Getting into the professional game is a little bit like a meat market. Clubs have got to look at as many players as they can because if they can pick up a talented youngster, it could save them a lot of money in the long-term.

"Out of 1,000 players that get invited for trials, only one or two may get taken on and the biggest thing Nick could take from going to Chelsea is that he'll see what can be achieved if you get your head down and work hard.

"Hopefully he'll enjoy it and the key thing is that he doesn't get overawed.

"Nick's got to stay level-headed about the whole thing but he's a very level-headed lad and he's got a lot of good people around him, like our goalkeeping coach John Macey, who will always be prepared to give him time and advice. I think he'll be fine.

"I really hope Nick is successful be-cause he's well respected at the club, a really nice lad and a very good goalkeeper."

Despite making his Wessex League debut last term, Hutchings' first team opportunities have been limited this season due to Stuart Kearn's impressive displays.
