BROTHERS Jack and Charlie Harris have each gained international recognition in their chosen sport of taekwon-do.

The Basingstoke brothers are already black belts and have just made it into the end-of-year rankings from their governing body, the International Taekwon-do Alliance (ITA), along with their instructor Kevin Hall.

His Basingstoke Taekwon-do Academy has some 120 members who attend classes at both Fort Hill Community School, Winklebury and Rucstall Primary School, Black Dam.

Black belts, who compete in the four international tournaments run each year by the ITA, earn points for finishing in the top four places in each of the three categories - traditional forms, free forms and sparring.

Hall and his two students were ranked highly in each of the tournaments they entered so that they appeared in the end-of-year ITA top-10 lists.

Among the fourth degree men's black belts, Hall was sixth in traditional forms, fourth in free forms and third in sparring.

Charlie Harris, who is 11, was sixth in traditional forms among the first degree black belt juniors and finished seventh in sparring.

In the super juniors, Jack Harris, aged 12, was sixth in both free forms and sparring.
