Hedge End 'lost' three players on the way to Ludgershall on Saturday but still came away with a decisive 5-2 victory and a place in the top three of Hampshire Division 2.

Manager Andy Indge admitted he became concerned when the trio didn't turn up for the kick off. "We couldn't get hold of them on the phone and I was worried they might have had an accident," he said.

It transpired that the players had missed the Andover turn off the motorway and Indge said with a wry smile: "They virtually got all the way to Gatwick before they realised their mistake!"

They arrived just before half-time when Hedge End, with their three subs in the line up, had battled from an early deficit to level.

They then took control, with John McFarland finishing up with a hat-trick backed up by Jamie Hewitt and Matt Davies, one of the players who got lost.

Laverstock & Ford still lead the division after a four-goal win over fading promotion hopefuls Netley Central, but Overton stayed hard on their heels by winning 4-0 at home to Romsey Town who had a man sent off. Rob Tyson, Tim Wright, Lorne Howard and Steve Hope were the Overton marksman.

Winchester City were expected to run up a high score against Aldermaston in the Premier Division, but the side kept City waiting 64 minutes for their first goal.

Ex-Bournemouth man Danny Smith broke the deadlock and Ian Mancey quickly added another as City went on to win 3-0.

East Cowes Vics, 3-0 winners at Petersfield, stayed second but Vosper Thornycroft are breathing fire behind them.

They took their goal tally to 26 in just three games when Mike Spinney (2), Gary Male, Ben Tyrrell, Martin Cornwall, Micky Moffatt and Totsy Turner powered them to a 7-2 win at Hythe & Dibden.
