FRANCIS BENALI admits he still dreams of being part of a Saints team that lifts the FA Cup.

The 34-year-old full-back, left, could replace injured Wayne Bridge in today's fourth round tie against Millwall - although versatile Rory Delap does appear the more likely option.

Benali said: "I am still ambitious as a player and I've always wanted to be part of a team that wins something.

"I will do the best I can if I am required - I'm fit and ready if needed. I'm certainly not saying I'm guaranteed to be playing. There are plenty of other players and I am sure whoever plays will do a good job.

"It's up to the manager and if I'm not playing I will be right behind the team from the sidelines.

"It can be difficult to keep focussed when you are not playing week in, week out and I do miss the competitive side of that.

"I am under no illusions. Even if I do play it will only be until Wayne Bridge is fit again."

Although Benali is unlikely to start, he should at least take his place on the bench for a competition which holds special memories.

He said: "The FA Cup is always something a bit special and the fans make a big difference.

"It will probably be quite hectic and physical to start with and take a while to settle down.

"I have some memories of the FA Cup. The win on penalties against Manchester United certainly stands out, although we have also experienced some disappointing defeats when the draw appeared to be opening up a bit for us.

"I hope this year we can put that right."
