GRIEVING parents Lorraine and Mark Blachford have raised £2,600 for the city hospital's neonatal unit in which their premature baby lost his brave fight for life.
The couple's son Zac died last August after being born prematurely in January, aged just 27 weeks.
Weighing 1lb 1oz, Zac died of chronic lung disease due to the immaturity of his lungs at birth, complicated with such a small birth weight.
Mr and Mrs Blachford organised a variety of fundraising events and collected £2,600 for the unit, which they handed over to senior clinical nurse Carol Woolridge. The family wanted to thank British American Tobacco Sports and Social Club in Totton, the maintenance department at Southampton General Hospital, Lyndhurst Working Men's Club, Russ Berri, staff in the neonatal unit and their friends for all their support.
