THERE was more at stake than just league positions when Wrights and Home James White met in a floodlit league game on a cold Monday evening.

Both teams were fighting to avoid claiming bottom spot in the Section A division.

But the game was also special as, not only was it the last before Christmas, but the Wrights girls had dressed in pink and their mascot, Richard, was fetchingly attired in fancy dress.

There was method in their - and his - madness as they were collecting money for their Breast Cancer cause.

The game was great fun, played in excellent spirits - but Wrights managed to secure the victory due to their experience and level of play.

LET'S MEET THE TEAM

Goal shooter - Marie Foster lives in Peartree Village and owns three dogs, one cat, one parrot, one tortoise and probably about half a dozen other animals. She's the Carole Smilie of the area and you will never find more sparkling or cleaner windows in the South. Marie also attends craft shows at the weekends, travelling all over the country for these events.

Goal attack - PE teacher Clare Egerton is also into dog-owning - two of them. She's editor of the Nuts About Netball page but she likes all sports. Getting on a bit now, so she may have to retire to Spain to rest her knees and continue knitting dishcloths which she does to relax!

wing attack/wing defence - Sue Jenkins works for a finance house as an administrator. She enjoys the social side of netball. Sue joined the team this season and has proved to be not only a good player but also a nice person. She has a hobby as a trainee hypnotist - and tries to practise on the team to make them win. She is obviously not very good yet!

Wing attack - Part time worker Kerry Whitfield is a mother of two. She enjoys a disco every weekend until the early hours of the morning at all the hot spots in Southampton.

Wing defence - Leanne Fisher, secretary of the team, also works in a finance house and came onto the property ladder with her partner a year ago. Very involved with the Guide movement - her nickname is Tiger Lily.

Centre - Elaine Morgan, IT analyst. Very flash, drives a Mercedes, has shares in Virgin Cosmetics and is always immaculately dressed for netball with everything, yes everything, matching, including nail polish. Likes to win at all costs. Enjoys campanology on Sunday evenings at the local church.

Goal defence/goal keeper - Michelle Dowle, scientist, is mother of two boys. Studying at present for a law degree, she is the complete opposite to Elaine, messy and unco-ordinated. Likes drinking and horse riding - at the same time. Michelle also fancies Strides in Lord of the Rings.

Goal defence/goal keeper - Angela Parry, scientist and mountain climber. Every weekend she's off up a mountain and takes part in the part-time navy volunteers (navy seal/SBS). Scottish lass who is hard as a stale haggis. Likes to play badminton to relax.

Wing defence - Sophie Magdziarz, Polish supermodel of the team. Recently joined, she likes dancing (around poles apparently), boxing and men and was a tv star a couple of weeks ago on The Weakest Link.

Goalkeeper - Sue Brian works at Scandia. The tallest member of the team (6ft with a 36-inch inside leg) she has been a great asset to the team. Sue has just taken up attending circus workshops and hopes to try the tightrope.
