AN EASTLEIGH man's high-profile campaign to walk the streets naked took another dramatic twist today when he again turned up starkers at court in Southampton.
Father-of-two Steve Gough, 43, of Chamberlayne Road, was due to appear before magistrates this morning, accused of behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress contrary to the Public Order Act 1986.
He denies the offence and his trial was taking place today in front of a magistrate brought in specially to deal with the controversial case.
Gough appeared on the cycleway on Southampton's busy Avenue at 9.55am, pedalling on his bike without clothes, and with a green haversack on his back.
He looked confident as he breezed down the cycleway while people looked on in amazement.
When Gough got to the court house he held a brief press conference and told reporters: "Going naked is not a crime in this country, but for some strange reason I keep getting arrested, but I don't see anyone screaming around today."
Then, in an amazing scene unlikely to have taken place before at a Southampton court, Gough walked up to the entrance and then strode into the reception area.
He was challenged by security guards before stepping into a lift and going into one of the courtroom areas on an upper floor. Six members of the Freedom to Be Yourself Campaign turned out to support him.
Gough was arrested again today for an alleged breach of the peace and was taken to Southampton Central police station.
