BELOVED family pet Wellington is the apple of his owner's eye and in line for a £1,000 cash prize.
The golden retriever has been nominated for the title of Britain's Top Dog in a dog biscuit company competition by owner Sheila Cullimore, of Merton Avenue, Portchester, after they have spent years together helping good causes.
Wellington is a familiar face in hospital wards in the Portsmouth area as a trained Pets As Therapy dog. He regularly visits patients who benefit from spending time with a pet.
Sheila, of Merton Avenue, Portchester, said: "He is just a welcome sight to the people he visits in hospital. They look forward to seeing him as many of them may have pets they are missing at home."
"He has such a wonderful nature and is just so keen to cheer everyone up. If I am looking a bit down he will nudge a ball at me to play with him. He is just a wonderful dog."
