Probation officers in Hampshire will not be striking during a national walkout.
Hants Probation Board chief officer, David Scott, said new working arrangements had been agreed and 30 new officers would join in the next year.
"Our staff have been coping magnificently and we recognise the pressures the extra work has put upon them."
A third of Hampshire's 600 probation board workers are members of the National Association of Probation Officers.
Following a national ballot, the union confirmed that industrial action would begin on January 29th. But Hants members have agreed new working arrangements, to come into effect in March.
The starting salary is £19,443 per annum.
