HE MAY have been a big hit with teenage girls, but Gareth Gates wouldn't have made it into the Cooper Big Band - he's too young for a start.
Rather than a pop idol, the Winchester-based swing outfit is looking for a matinee idol - a 20 to 65-year-old would-be Robbie Williams, Harry Connick Jnr or Frank Sinatra.
The band will be holding auditions for a amateur male singer at Winchester Guildhall on Sunday afternoon. Contestants must be able to read music and will be given a choice of three to four
classic songs to sing with the backing of the full band in uniform.
Members of the public are
invited to come along and watch the auditions, which take place from 1pm-4pm. Tickets cost £5 on the door.
For more information about how to audition, call Ron Moonesinghe on 01962 713800.
