THE police and Army in Wiltshire are taking part in a joint venture to provide judo lessons for the community in and around Tidworth, Amesbury and Salisbury.

Det Constable Nigel Porter - a black belt 1st dan - is helping to establish a judo club at Stirling Barracks in Larkhill, which aims to encourage participation from the military and civilian population.

A total of £4,000 has been provided by 14 Regiment Larkhill to buy mats for the club, and instructors from the Army and police will teach classes of all ages, with particular emphasis on children and self-defence for adults.

Dc Porter has also arranged for the club to have membership of the Police Athletics Assoc-iation, (PAA) which will mean every member will be able to attend events and courses run by the association - and possibly represent the PAA or the Army in competitions.

Larkhill Judo Club opened for the first time on Wednesday night in the gymnasium and will open every Wednesday at 6.30pm.

If you or your family would like to join please call Michael Redfern on 01980 845437.
