IT'S the winning combination Saints fans would have loved to have seen - Matthew Le Tissier playing alongside Paul Gascoigne in midfield - but now that dream team might happen.

Non-league team Eastleigh, who play in the Jewson Wessex League, have made an audacious move for Gazza.

Le Tissier, who retired from Saints at the end of last season, signed for the Ten Acres club this term and has already turned out for Eastleigh.

Eastleigh manager, Paul Doswell, revealed that Le Tiss, pictured right, was trying to persuade his friend, who played in the Saints' star's testimonial last May, to turn out for the team.

He said: "It's a bit of a fanciful idea, but it is possible. If we can pull it off, it would be unbelieveable."

Gascoigne, without a club since leaving Burnley last season, is currently in China having a try-out in Hainan.
