City of Southampton swimming club are celebrating promotion to the Speedo Premier League after winning the finals night at Reading by just two points.

Head coach Alan Ayles enthused: "It was a superb performance by the team and, although extremely difficult to name individuals, the swimmers from the University swam exceedingly well."

CoS claimed top three positions in 31 events with nine first places, 16 seconds and six.

The University swimmers were first or second in six of their seven races, with wins for Tom Ward in the men's open Individual medley (1.02.28), Russell Champion in the men's open butterfly (1.00.59), Chris Jones in the men's open breaststroke (1.09.69).

John Audis was second in the backstroke (1.02.38) the men's open freestyle relay.

Chris, Tom, Russell, John, James McTavish, & Luke Horsewell clinched first place five seconds ahead of their nearest rivals (2.33.61).

The girls breaststroke events saw Angela Fu winning the girls 13/U (1.18.16) while she was second in the ladies open (1.18.33).

Hayley Couchman was second in the girls 50m 10-11 (41.85) while Hannah Glasspool was first and second respectively in the 13/U (1.12.97) and 15/U (1.12.42) backstroke events.

Emma Macey won the 13/U 100m butterfly (1.10.34) and was second in the open 100m butterfly (1.09.56).

Charlotte Slater was second in the 15/U butterfly (1.14.17) and Couchman second in the 10-11 50m butterfly (37.58).

The Girls 13/U relay team (Hannah Glasspool, Angela Fu, Emma Macey & Louise Colmer) won both the medley (1.01.90) and freestyle (57.18) events.

The Girls 15/U team (Natalie Robinson, Sarah Brown, Charlotte Slater and Emma Macey) were second in the medley (1.03.14) and fourth in the freestyle (57.47) events.

The boys 15/U team relay (Luke Clewlow, Luke Horsewell, Zack Shivers-Stevens, David Muggeridge) were second in both the medley (59.33) and the freestyle (51.71) events.

Second places were also from David Ruff 13/U butterfly (1.19.75), Nick Edwards 13/U 100m freestyle (1.04.05) and Luke Clewlow 15/U 100m breaststroke (1.17.30).

Other good swims were from Celine Robson Robinson in the girls 10-11 freestyle (34.23) and Alex Hamilton in the ladies open freestyle (1.00.47).
