Hockley Ladies dominance of the Mail onSunday Golf Classic continued at the Dunes GolfClub in South Carolina when they won the prestigious club championship for the third time since 1995.
The Hockley team of Emma Weeks, Judie Lewis,Fiona Williams and Helen Wheeler beat Abergele GolfClub from Wales in the final by 2.5 matches to 1.5.
After wins from Weeks and Lewis the title was assured when Helen Wheeler halved her match with Welsh international Becky Brewerton after Brewerton twice found the water at the 18th green.
It was a terrific performance by Hockley after key player Liz McCombe had dropped out for family reasons just days before. It was also a morale booster for Emma Weeks who narrowly missed out on her European Tour card last month.
Highlight in the semifinals was a hole in one by Helen Wheeler at the fifth hole. Wins by Jenni Ray and Weeks and a half from Wheeler saw Hockley through to the final.
But hopes of a Hampshire double at Myrtle Beach were crushed when the Stoneham men's team lost a sudden death playoff in their semi-final.
