Firstly friends, secondly a team, many of the Adams Roofing netball side have played together for more than 12 years. The team is run democratically, although there are those with louder voices than others! They all play for fun and look forward to the social activities that being in a team brings.

Activities ranging from from white-water rafting and mountain climbing in Wales, riding rollercoasters at Alton Towers, guessing the culprit at murder mystery evenings and competing at Brean Sands netball tournaments to Christmas nights out are all eagerly waited. Donning fancy dress and hitting the dance floor also needs little excuse

Lately the team have been working hard on reproducing so on match days they are sometimes playing with one or two less players. Ten weddings and 13 babies in the last four years have taken their toll on their placement within the league.

The one thing the team do have is height, the average being 5ft 9in. They have three main defenders, Andrea, Vicky and Claire C, who all measure up at 6ft 2in, although the centre court sisters Nicki and Jacquie bring the height average down a bit.

The team have worked hard in previous years to obtain sufficient umpires to spread the load evenly in the team, and with three C awards and four beginner awards they are now reaping the benefits.

Darren Adams, of D Adams and Sons Flat Roofing Ltd, has supported the team for four years and has watched the team climb up the leagues, barring the odd blip because of pregnancies. His continued and generous support is very much appreciated.

The team's latest fixture, which was played through the several showers, was against Home James.

The tempo of play was high throughout the whole hour and Adams managed to make sure of a lead at the end of each quarter.

Several changes to the team proved a good call and although Home James were cut down to six players with an injury, Adams had already commanded a good lead and went on to win 39-23.

LET'S MEET THE TEAM:

Teresa Parker - Systems analyst - plays goal shooter and attack. Enjoys curries, red wine and holidays, hence her continual suntan. Her contagious giggle swiftly infects the whole team

Sam Smith - Marketing manager - plays goal shooter and attack. Do not be fooled by the cool, calm exterior for beneath lies a volcano that is prone to erupt into bouts of passion and aggression. Has often been known to dance on tables at nightclubs. Can't be missed in her yellow VW Beetle

Claire Proudley - Environmental health technician - plays mainly centre court positions. Her manic manner and loud voice mean she encourages the whole team. Provider of homemade cakes at all tournaments and has often been likened to Posh Spice

Susan Greenwood - Secretary - plays centre court positions. Always the first on the dance floor and the last to leave. She has more titanium in her knee than the bionic woman, but is still playing. Is often mistaken for sister to Claire P.

Hayley Devitt - Customer care co-ordinator - plays centre court positions. The only person on the team to be so photogenic that, at the end of an evening out, still looks like she has stepped out of a glamour mag

Nicki Pook - Mobile hairdresser - plays wing positions. Don't be fooled by her looks, she has been known to intercept a ball twice her height. Will always find a bargain in the kids' section of C&A.

Sam Powell - Personnel administrator - plays wing attack. Newest member of the team, yet to go through initiation on a night out

Jackie McKillen - Bank clerk - plays wing positions. So committed to netball, has been known to sleep inside the kit bag one night at a tournament

Claire Crudgington - Civil servant - plays goal defence and goalkeeper. The raver of the team ('Big fish, little fish, cardboard box'), likes to take a nap before, during and after matches.
