James Richardson cruised to a points victory at Ikon nightclub on Monday night - the perfect preparation for his bid for a FOURTH national title.

Richardson, from Shirley's Golden Ring club, takes on Leeds' Gary Sykes next Monday in the final of the Class C under-57 kgs championships following a semi-final win against Dagenham's Dean Smith.

In the Ikon show, Richardson beat England international Mike Gray-don on points in what was a scrappy fight due to his Bristol's opponent's swarming style.

Olympic champion Tony Hill was also in action, demonstrating all his undoubted class to easily see-off Southwick's Nick Jenman in a landslide points decision.

Golden Ring's Russ Fawson opened up proceedings with an impressive victory over Southwick's Luke Hunt.

Next in action was Peter Meek, who comfortably beat another Southwick boxer, Sam Butler.

Making his debut for Golden Ring was Basingstoke's Jimmy Cole and he sneaked a close points decision against Jim Moby.

Southpaw Craig Mattingly fought for the 40th time at the tender age of 14 and he showed his silky skills to beat Mark Foord in a unanimous decision.

Next up was crowd favourite Tony Yorke against Bristol's Danny Butler.

Yorke from Shirley Warren boxed well and appeared to have shaded it, but lost a close majority decision.

Millbrook's Michael Baker also went down to a narrow points defeat at the hands of Pompey fighter Mike Graydon.

But Mark Atkins continued his excellent progress and proved his undoubted power by blasting away James Brewster in one round in his first senior bout.

Totton's Gary Moore was also in action but London boxer Mike Napier's superior experience helped him to a points victory.

There was much interest in a local match between Totton's Brett Randall and Eastleigh Lester Bevan, with the Eastleigh man stopping his brave opponent in three rounds.

Southampton ABC boxers were also in action. Perhaps the most eagerly awaited clash came between Matty Tew and Golden Ring's Darren Wyatt with Tew taking the decision in a high quality bout.

Another winner for Southampton was Richard Smart, who beat Bristol's Dan Stewart.

In a separate show at Abingdon on Friday night, Rob Mann won and John Donoghue lost on a points decisions.

In the final, Arnold was matched against Alistair Goode, but lost on points after making a good start.

Watson was up against local favourite Mark Huston from Dundee and was stopped after a receiving a huge right hook.

Both Arnold and Watson train at the Golden Ring club in Shirley.
