Ordnance Survey upset the promotion applecart in Hampshire League Division 2 on Saturday when they brought high-flying Hedge End down to earth with a bump.

The Mapmen triumphed 4-0 - a sure sign that new manager Tim Balch is making his mark after landing at the club from their old Civil Service neighbours QK Southampton.

Former Wessex League player and coach Balch was sacked by QK but Survey secretary Geoff Smith reckons that QK's loss is Survey's gain.

"He's taken us to another level," said Smith. "Our fitness is better and our attitude is better. We did our best work at Hedge End in the last few minutes of the game."

There was nothing in it at half-time as Survey led 1-0. Hedge End had plenty of chances to get back but couldn't take them and, after Survey added a second, the Hedgemen folded. Brenton McLean and Steele Saunders scored two goals apiece for Survey who could sneak into the promotion places themselves if they keep this sort of form going.

The Southampton influence in this division is growing with Netley Central Sports already breathing down the necks of the leaders. They added to Broughton's problems at the other end of the table with a 2-0 win at Buckholt Road where Scott Rice converted a penalty then missed one. Dave Ashley got the other goal for Netley.

Alresford ended a four-week wait for a win in Division 1 when they beat Co-op & Hilsea 4-2 at Alresbury Park. Alresford raced into a three-goal lead, then Co-op hit back twice before Gary Bennett, with his second goal of the game, settled it. Andy Couchman and Lee Abbott grabbed the others.

Winchester City continue to carry all before them in the Premier Division. Lymington Town have been showing signs of improvement recently but were cannon fodder at the City Ground where John Robson's Winchester side galloped home 10-0, seven of the goals coming in the second-half.

Michael Jackson recorded a hat-trick, Andy Forbes and Lloyd Webber scored two each and Matthew Bicknell, Steve Beeks and debutant Ian Mancey also got in on the scoring act.

Poole Town lost further contact with the leaders when two Paul Jayes goals at Liss condemned the Dolphins to a 2-1 defeat.

Andover New Street stretched their unbeaten run to nine games, winning 3-1 at Hythe and Dibden where Nick Turpin (2) and Jay Mann did the damage.

New East Cowes Vics manager Tony Newman still waits for his first win after a 2-2 draw with Ringwood at Whippingham. Liam Gearing and Martin Young earned Vics their point.

Ian Stocks scored the winner for the Hampshire League rep side in a 3-2 midweek success at Lymington Town - and also rounded off Locks Heath's 4-1 victory over Brading after Craig Finch, Dan Jones and Aiden Travaskis had already put Locks in the driving seat.
