The local running community are mourning the loss of Bryan Switzer, who died after a long illness last Thursday.
A well-known member of Southampton City AC, Switzer found his strength in ultra distance races particularly during the 1970s and '80s.
He also competed in road races and cross-country events and ran the marathon in sub-two hours and 35 minutes.
He will be remembered for his cheerful optimism, which was always welcome at races around southern Hampshire.
The funeral was taking place at Southampton Crematorium today.
