Andover New Street were at it again last Saturday, ruffling the fur of one of the Hampshire League top-dogs.

After denting the 100 per cent records of East Cowes Vics and then Winchester City, New Street went to high-riding Poole Town looking for another upset.

And they achieved it after catching out the Dolphins with a quickly-taken free kick in the first half, then hanging on grimly for a point after the Dorset giants had drawn level on 75 minutes.

Darren Elmes grabbed the vital goal for Poole, heading home firmly from that Brian Munday free kick, and he could have got a hat-trick.

Elmes ballooned over from close range then hit a free-kick just wide.

Street ended a good run of results for Poole whose vice chairman Chris Reeves admitted: "You have to give them credit. They were resolute at the back and battled hard for their point. They were well organised and man-marked our danger man Jamie Holland very effectively. We played as well as we can but they didn't allow us to capitalise."

On a day when much of the programme was washed out, Ringwood Town twice led Lymington Town through Jason Lovell and Carl Fleet but were pegged back before half-time in a 2-2 draw at Long Lane.

Alresford's fast-fading promotion hopes received another setback when they lost 2-1 at home to fast-improving Tadley in Division 1.

Verwood put their hopes of a top-two place back on track with a 1-0 home win over Clanfield, with all the major action coming halfway through the first half when Verwood missed a penalty then snapped up the match-winner from a corner.

Clanfield are struggling in the bottom two but manager Bob Coldrick claimed: "We were worth a point. We've had to struggle on most of the season without a goalkeeper but our regular number one, Toby Cartilidge, is back from injury and suspension and we're playing a lot better now."

The big Division 2 clash between Overton and Laverstock & Ford reached a gripping climax as both goals in a 1-1 draw were scored in injury time. Overton broke the deadlock from a corner then Laverstock threw everyone forward and in the sixth minute of time added on, Dom Male crossed and Nick Newman darted in to scramble the equaliser.

Laverstock manager Andy Wykes said: "I would have been gutted if we'd lost because we had more of the game. But they're a big, strong side who are hard to break down."

Down at the other end of the table, Ludgershall won their derby match against Brougnton 2-0 with both goals coming in the first half from a Wayne Kerr penalty and a 30-yard strike by Russell Evans.
