The second instalment of the unofficial London Division Four South-West 'Southampton-challenge' series of matches takes place this weekend, as city rivals Tottonians and Trojans clash at the College Ground.

But, unlike last season, the result should certainly not be as convincing in Totts' favour, as a Steve Broomfield five-try salvo blasted the newly-promoted Stoneham Lane side to a harrowing 64-5 defeat.

However, with the hosts sitting pretty at the top of the table and not one single defeat in any first XV fixture this season, they start as overwhelming favourites against a Trojans' side languishing at the wrong end of the log, despite recording their first victory of the campaign against Cranleigh last weekend.

The visitors are keeping their cards close to their chest with regard to selection, but Totts recall Chris Smith on the wing to displace Dave Lamb, who drops to the bench.

Skipper Miles Northover has still not recovered from his ankle tear, so Simon Dine, who impressed at Farnham last week, retains the hooker's shirt in the only other change from that successful outfit.

Southampton could jump into mid-table if they can dump winless Cranleigh to their sixth straight reverse and follow Trojans lead from six days ago. But the journey to the Surrey countryside will not be an easy one, especially for a Saints side who have lost all three on the road, but this is a great opportunity to halt that situation.

Tony Cador's side are forced into a couple of changes with Dave Ingram and James Woolf both unavailable for the cross-border hike. Mike McNeish and Ioan Raymond return, while Marcus Coffin and Wayne Allen switch positions at prop and replacements bench.

"In all of our three away league games this season, we have performed disappointingly," said Dave Griffiths. "But this is a good chance to break that duck against a side without a win."

Both of the county's National League sides are on their travels, heading in varyingly different directions - Basingstoke head to East Anglia to face promotion chasers North Walsham, while Havant go west to Weston-super-Mare.

Havant's game is one which could move them back into the top four, but they meet a Weston side who are particularly tough to beat on their own patch - only North Walsham have achieved that and only by a single point.

The visitors' injury problems have still not eased, with skipper Joe Duffett joining the casualties with a dislocated thumb. The previously suspended Matt Kell returns while South African Anton Petzer leads the side from full-back.

"We will be looking for the same determination we showed last week, coupled with some steel," said coach Dave Cook.

Scrum-half Dave Jones creates a new club record, strolling out for his 168th league appearance for the Hooks Lane club, which surpasses the total held by stalwart Will Knight during the last National League era.

It is an early start for Ian Calder's Basingstoke, who make the long haul to Havant's conquerors of last weekend, North Walsham. But that does not worry the Kiwi, who believes his side thrives on the arduous journeys - as they showed at Norwich and Redruth in previous seasons.

Scrum-half Tom Dean returns, moving Yann Callum to the bench, while Kelvin Chapman retains his second row place despite Nigel Hooker having recovered from a dead leg that saw his miss the Camberley game.
