THOUSANDS of people are expected to descend on Southampton's Mayflower Park on Saturday for fun and fireworks.

Run by Southampton Round Table and this year supported by the Daily Echo, organisers have splashed out more than £6,500 on fireworks. It promises to be the biggest and best show yet with Wave FM's Steve Power entertaining the crowds from 5pm. David Rayner, a partner with regional solicitors Blake Lapthorn, is co-ordinating the display.

He said: "What could be better and safer than coming to a pro- perly organised major event?

"We want to put on a magnificent display for Southampton. We also want to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Relief, Radio Lollipop and other local charities."

Admission is £3 for adults and £1 for children.

Tickets can be bought on the night or in advance from either the Daily Echo shop in Hanover Buildings or Southampton City Information in Civic Centre Road.
