BEAULIEU's annual fireworks spectacular must have been blessed from the skies as the forecast gale force winds and heavy rain held off until after the display.

The Daily Echo-backed event, held in the grounds of the National Motor Museum, opened with Beaulieu Rides and Drives, old time fairground rides and sideshows.

Crowds thronged the attraction as the evening drew on and some dressed as witches, ghouls, skeletons and demons in acknowledgement of Hallowe'en as well as Guy Fawkes.

They were joined by Nino Firetto, Wave 105's afternoon presenter, who broadcast the event live on the Wave Zone.

The bonfire was lit at 7pm and the magnificent fireworks display, set to music, got under way.

Appropriately, this year's music had a James Bond theme to mark Beaulieu's latest Bond exhibition which features some of the most recognisable boats from the movies.

Beaulieu's Public Relations Officer, Margaret Rowles, said attendance was over 8,200 - similar to last year.

"There was a great atmosphere, with long queues to see the James Bond boats and other attractions.

"It wasn't cold and everyone seemed very comfortable. The weather was perfect all afternoon. Although there was the odd spot of rain after 6.30pm, the real rain didn't start until after the fireworks had finished.

"People began arriving steadily from 3pm, and were still arriving when the display started."
