Portsmouth will be hoping to join in the party when they travel to Division 1 champions Manchester City on Sunday to finish off their miserable season.

City's last home match of the season will be an occasion to remember with the championship trophy being presented, Stuart Pearce playing his last ever game and Oasis brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher playing a mini-gig on the pitch.

But Pompey will hardly be in the mood for celebrating after a torrid year that started with so much promise and grew ever more disappointing.

Harry Redknapp is now looking towards next season and said: "Next season there will be five or six, maybe seven new players here and I want to bring people in who want to be successful, want to win and know what it is to work Monday to Friday.

"I will bring good players here, so we can up the standard of everything, especially the fitness.

"I have got a lot of players in mind who will do the job for us.

"There are two things going for this club - great support and a great chairman. Otherwise, the place needs changing around from top to bottom.

"There are too many people who have been here too long.

"Tony Pulis has been in the dressing-room, moaned at them but couldn't improve things; Alan Ball was a great manager but couldn't get anything out of them; and even Graham Rix has had a go."

Rowan Vine is likely to start up front again with Leo Biagini set to finish his loan spell injured and Svetoslav Todorov suspended.

Nigel Quashie should return after his suspension but new defender Eddie Howe is out.

Scott Hiley, on a free transfer, has returned to training while Robert Prosinecki could play his final match in a Pompey shirt if he returns unscathed from his international exertions with Croatia in midweek.
