AN Isle of Wight building is among 12 to be shortlisted in the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) awards for the south.

The building of fashion firm Artigiano at Yarmouth, designed by The Manser Practice, is to be visited this month by an awards jury.

The Artigiano building was chosen for the shortlist from among 30 buildings from across the RIBA south area, which includes Berkshire, Bucking-hamshire, Hampshire, the Island and Oxfordshire.

Other buildings shortlisted include Southampton Magistrates' Courts and the Theatre Royal, Winchester.

Head of awards at the RIBA, Tony Chapman, said: "The standard of entries this year is higher than ever, making shortlisting extremely difficult. RIBA judges look for quality of design, but success in matching their clients' needs can be equally important in the decision-making."
