THE 50 glorious years of the Queen's reign are providing the theme for Andover carnival in July.

Organisers, Andover Round Table are keen to see the streets of the town lined with spectators taking the opportunity to celebrate the jubilee for the second time after the official date in June.

A spokesman said: "These will be special jubilee celebrations on Saturday 6 July.

Entrants are asked to take their inspiration from the '50 glorious years' of HRH Queen Elizabeth's reign and provide reminders of the many special events of the last half century.

"Whatever your memories of the past five decades, why not share them with the town by entering a float with your memories as the theme?

"Whether you are a member of a youth club, a sports club, or a night club why not get together with fellow club members and enter a float?

"Similarly, we would welcome entries from churches, pubs, hotels, shops and other organisations within the Andover area.

"No-one should be excluded from the fun so get together with friends, family and neighbours and sort out your entry."

Mark Bladen, carnival 2002 chairman, added: "We are well ahead of target with our plans for this year's carnival and have been helped enormously by the addition of local residents to the carnival committee.

"All the team has put in an enormous amount of hard work to date, knowing full well that there is lots still to do." Entry forms can be found at www.andovercarnival.org.uk, in certain editions of the Andover Advertiser and from Wool-worth's in Andover.

Sponsors can help by providing sums from £100 upwards. Business names can be shown in the Round Table roundel by e-mailing sponsorship@andovercarnival.org.uk. Alternatively, phone 08707 526280.
