Portsmouth fans may never see Robert Prosinecki again after the Croatian superstar picked up a hamstring injury which could rule him out of his Fratton Park swansong.

Prosinecki looks set to invoke a get-out clause in his Pompey contract to move to Japanese side Grampus Eighth in the summer in a deal worth around £7.5m to him over three years.

Tomorrow's match with Watford, the final game at Fratton Park this season, was expected to be sold out as Pompey fans clamoured to get their final glimpse of one of the most talented players to have ever represented the club.

However, a hamstring injury picked up in training may scupper his chances of making even the briefest of appearances.

But Pompey boss Harry Redknapp is still not giving up all hope of keeping Prosinecki.

He said: "It will be a massive blow to the club if he goes. Anyone who's seen the games this season knows he's the player in the first division. He's top class.

"He's played in a side that has been struggling and been absolutely outstanding and he's a great player, having played for the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona.

"He could have thrown his toys out of the pram but has kept going and his attitude has been first class but his hamstring injury means he might not play at Fratton Park again.

"But I am hoping he will be here next year. We want to keep him - he's different class.

"I am desperate to keep him and so is the chairman so if he does go it won't be for lack of trying."

Predictably, Prosinecki's case is just one of a long list of players not available or struggling.

Nigel Quashie completes his two-match ban for picking up ten bookings this season while Svetoslav Todorov starts his three-match suspension for his sending off at Preston.

Todorov's absence, along with that of on-loan Leo Biagini (hamstring), means that 18-year-old Rowan Vine is the club's only fit striker and looks likely to start his first game for the club.

"I've not got much choice," said Redknapp. "The lad's only 18 and, if I go much lower I'll be getting someone out of the under-11s."

Shaun Derry is hoping to make a comeback from injury in what could also be his last match at Fratton Park.

The former Sheffield United man is known to be very unhappy at the treatment of former boss and close friend Graham Rix and make seek a summer move elsewhere.

Rix may well be looking at the game with great interest with Watford being managed by Gianluca Vialli - with whom he worked closely when Vialli was boss at Cehlsea.
