A major programme of showcase events will focus global attention on the south's multi-million-pound marine industry this year.

Next month delegates from across Europe, together with regional representatives, will gather at Fareham's Ferneham Hall so local companies can discuss their products and services with both domestic and overseas buyers. The event takes place on April 17 and 18.

Arrangements are also in hand for the annual Ribex exhibition due to be staged at Southampton's Ocean Village from May 17 to 19.

The following month sees the start of seawork2002, the commercial marine exhibition and forum, in the city's Western Docks.

This year, besides highlighting some of the latest technology and developments in the trade, there will be a high level conference on the environmental impact of marine activities.

Initial details of the 34th annual Southampton Boat Show, due to open its doors from September 13 to 22 this year, have also been announced.

Around 125,000 visitors are expected to flock to the city's waterfront throughout the prestigious event.

Again one of the world's largest purpose built marinas, with more than two kilometres of pontoons providing moorings for over 300 craft including a replica of Captain Cook's Endeavour, will be a major attraction.

A total of 600 exhibitors are expected at Mayflower Park showing off nearly 900 boats. For more information log on to: www. southamptonboatshow.com
