HE swapped his dog collar for a Stetson hat to boogie down to the YMCA with the Village People.

It was delivered in such style that the Rev David Snuggs soon had his Fair Oak flock rocking in the aisles.

In stylish cowboy gear, the vicar became one of the star turns of the night as he chanted the lines from that now legendary disco anthem.

In a Fair Oak version of Stars in Their Eyes, Mr Snuggs surprised and delighted the audience by appearing as a cowboy in a Village People line-up.

After a sizzling performance the vicar said: "I would like to scotch all rumours that next year we will be doing The Full Monty!"

He was among 40 villagers who took to the stage to recreate a star-studded line-up which included Robbie Will-iams, The Nolans, The Von Trapp Family Singers, the Village People, Robbie Williams, Kate Winslet, Abba, Mark Knopler, Frank Sinatra, Sonny and Cher, Cliff Richard and Dad's Army.

Watched by an 180-strong audience, the Stars in Their Eyes evening was helping people in one of the most impoverished corners of the world.

For the entertainment package, presented by the St Thomas Church congregation, raised £1,600 for St Thomas Handshake to Kware appeal.

Astonished by the amount raised, one of the organisers Michelle Morris said: "We only expected to raise about £500."

The charity, supported by the Fair Oak community, is raising money to support a clinic and schools in the desperately poor Kware slums of Nairobi in Kenya.
