A FAREHAM school is celebrating the brainpower of students who came top of the class in a national maths competition.
Four pupils at Henry Cort Community School came away with gold certificates in the countrywide maths quiz that tested youngsters' logic reasoning as well as mental arithmetic.
Michael Harley, 15, Chris Bell, 15, Matt Shepherd, 13 and Jo Pointer, 13 all achieved their awards by coming in the top six per cent of entrants in the competition designed to stretch the best mathematicians in UK schools.
Deputy head teacher Paul Fielon said the school, in Hillson Drive, was delighted with their success.
He said: "As well as the gold awards, seven students achieved silver certificates and a further eight got bronze awards so we are thrilled with their performance."
Along with their national success Jo Pointer and Matt Shepherd now have the chance to pit their wits against the best in Europe as their results mean they qualify for an international stage of the competition, known as the European Kangaroo.
