SOUTHAMPTON Mars fanatic Dave Holloway has packed his freezer with 1,200 bars - because he's worried he won't like a new version of the chocolate.
Dave, who has tucked into a Mars a day for the past 30 years, was devastated when manufacturers announced they were changing his favourite snack.
The caretaker splashed out £300 buying 150 eight-packs at £2 each.
He then rang the makers and couldn't believe his luck when they told him a frozen bar would last a staggering four and a half years.
The 39-year-old, of Kingston Road, said said: "I was mortified by the news because I have grown up with Mars.
"I found myself lying awake at night fretting over what would happen if the changes spoiled the thick chocolatey taste.
"It might seem a lot of money to spend on chocolate bars but having a freezer full of them gives me peace of mind."
Masterfoods, the makers of Mars, announced last week that the bar is to have its most radical makeover in its 70-year history. It will be 2.5g lighter and be filled with a lighter nougat.
A spokeswoman said: "We are sure Dave will like the new Mars Bar as well but are delighted he loves the original so much."
