VINTAGE thriller The Ghost Train is getting ready to depart at the theatre Royal Winchester.
The classic 1925 play, written by Arnold Ridley - better-known for playing the doddery, genteel Godfrey in Dad's Army - comes to the Theatre Royal Winchester, April 2-5.
It features an all-star cast, including Henry McGee, a household name thanks to his long-running association with comic Benny Hill, Judy Cornwell, who played Daisy in the BBC sitcom Keeping Up Appearances, Christopher Strauli, best-known for his role in the hospital comedy Only When I Laugh, and Arnold Ridley's former Dad's Army co-star Ian Lavender.
The play is a perennial favourite of amateur theatre groups, and has been adapted several times for the big screen.
Set in a remote Cornish train station, the story is based on the classic premiss of a group of strangers finding themselves stranded together with no apparent way out. Despite the stationmaster's unnerving tales of a ghost train, they decide to spend the night in the waiting room - but start to regret their decision when a series of apparitions begins to materialise.
Performances start at 7.30pm. For tickets and information, call the Theatre Royal box office on 01962 840440.
