Hampshire swimmers, Laura Chase and Peter Hall, flew the flag in style representing English Schools at the Manx Trophy meet in Inverness.

Locks Heath-based Chase, 14, pictured, and who attends Brookfield School in Sarisbury Green, won the junior 200m medley. She smashed the meet record held by international Sue Rolph by almost three seconds, clocking 2min 20.32sec. And the teenager helped the 4x50m freestyle relay squad to swim to a championship-best time of 1:50.66 to take gold.

Chase swims for Portsmouth Northsea and is part of the World Class Potential national training programme. She is targeting the forthcoming Commonwealth Games trials in Manchester where she is competing in five events.

Hall, 14, who swims for Fareham Nomads, was also in fine form in Scotland. The Crofton School pupil from Stubbington won the 100m backstroke in a personal best 1:02.22, faster than he swam at the county championships earlier this month.

England won the event with 155 points, with Scotland in second, Ireland third and Wales fourth.

Meanwhile in New Zealand, newly weds Tony and Jo Corben from Fareham Nomads have been in action at the World Masters event in Christchurch.

Jo Corben placed second in the 200m medley in a best time of 2:32.76 swimming in the 30-34 year group. Her best event in the 200m backstroke where she is the British and European champion.

Tony competed in the 50m butterfly. Ranked 23rd going into the event, he finished 12th in the 35-39 year age group with a best time of 30.12sec.
