A DOZEN doggies weighing 14lb 12oz put Josh Simmonds in the Yeovil Open driving seat at West Bexington.

Of the 43 competitors, Ben Assirati was the runner-up with 14lb 4oz, followed by Daniel Mogridge from Fareham 12lb 10oz, Mick Goodger from Southampton 9lb 15oz and Darren Phillips Fareham 9lb 4oz.

The heaviest roundfish was a 2lb 13oz dogfish landed by Travis Webling from Southampton, while the flatfish section was won by Barry Fooks with an 8oz dab.

The Wessex Division of the National Federation of Sea Anglers stage their AGM at the Seaman Mission at Southampton on April 5, starting at 7.30pm.

With Mike North, the chairman of the NFSA expected to attend, along with a number of other senior officers, this would seem to be an ideal opportunity to ask all those niggling questions relating to the new individual insurance scheme which has recently been introduced.

All clubs are requested to send at least two delegates, but the meeting is open to all NFSA members. The next few days are going to be extremely busy for local match anglers with six open fixtures being staged during the next five days.

On Friday evening, there are two pegged measure & return fixtures, with South Coast Tackle staging their event at Lee-on-Solent from 8pm to 1am. Tickets have been set at £8 plus a £2 pool. The event is pre-book only. Details from South Coast Tackle on 023 9255 0209.

Also on Friday evening, Ian Golds is staging a pegged measure & return open at East Beach, Selsey, with fishing from 8pm to midnight. Tickets are £10 plus pools. Pre-book only and details from 023 9248 6922.

On Easter Sunday, the Swanage club are staging a junior open on their local pier with fishing from 9am to 1pm. Tickets which include the pier toll have been set at just £1, there will also be a 50p pool. Booking in gets under way at 8.30am on the pier, just turn up on the day.
