Barbican 3, Water End 1

THE SEASON has fallen apart for Reggie Eccott's Water End.

At the beginning of the month, all they had to do was win their remaining three matches and they would have been division one champions.

After losing two of these matches, the third defeat followed at Taverner Close on Saturday and now even second spot is looking doubtful.

Barbican, however, are very happy with this victory and are looking set for at least promotion, if not the title. All will be revealed when they meet the leaders Wellington Social next month.

Duane Crome gave Barbie the lead in the 18th minute when he collected a ball over the top from Alex Matthews and went on to score his 24th goal of the season.

There was hope for Water End when they equalised in the 70th minute. A throw-in from Pete Tennison found Steve Allison and Addy Ellis beat 'keeper Andy Brown. The Barbie 'keeper made two good saves to keep the scores level before Jay Butt played a one-two with Crome to regain the lead in the 76th minute.

In the last minute, Jay Butt made sure of the points when he chested down a centre from Jamie Ballentine and shot home.

South Ham Rangers 0, Wellington Social 2

Wellington, who are now just one victory away from the division one title, prepared well for their forthcoming Basingstoke A Cup final against New Inn this Saturday evening at the Camrose Ground.

Wellington opened with a hotly-disputed penalty, given after Marlon Thomas was adjudged to have fouled Lee Weller. Rangers 'keeper Gary King did well to get his hands to the spot-kick from Micky Costen but failed to hold it.

Both sides fought hard until the end and Welly scored their second in the 85th minute when Weller went past three men to beat South Ham goalkeeper King.

Tylney Hall 1, Headley Athletic 2

This was the division two championship decider, even though Headley still have seven matches to play.

They got off to a great start, taking the lead after just one minute when Stuart Carr started a move in midfield. An error in defence allowed Simon Vosper to cross for Ray Lake to volley home.

Tylney looked to have a great chance of winning when Headley had Dominic Joslin sent off in the 30th minute and, although under much pressure from Tylney's front line, Headley held out until the second half when Tylney equalised. Andy Ramsden's through pass was finished off by Rickie Attridge.

The decider came in the last 10 minutes. Ray Lake hassled a defender to free Stuart Carr on a breakaway. 'Keeper Dave Wallace did well to get both hands to his effort but could not keep it out.
