DETECTIVES have raided a house in Southampton as part of a crackdown on drug-related violent crime.

Six people were today in custody after being arrested on suspicion of drug-related offences.

The five men and one woman were being quizzed at Southampton Central and Bitterne police stations this morning.

Police said at least four of the suspects - aged between 24 and 30 - were believed to be illegal immigrants.

All were arrested at a property in Southampton's inner city area in an intelligence-led raid carried out at 11am yesterday.

Detectives also recovered around 7oz of crack cocaine, along with other drugs including cannabis.

It is understood suspected stolen goods and quantities of cash were also seized from the property.

Police today said they were unable to give details of the address for operational reasons but confirmed it was a residential property within the inner city.

The raid was carried out by a team of eight detectives based at Hampshire police's divisional headquarters in Hulse Road, Southampton.

As a result of the operation, a seventh male suspect was arrested at a London address and was today helping the Metropolitan police with inquiries.

The Southampton swoop was part of Hampshire police's high profile Operation Trojan campaign.

Launched last month, the crackdown aims to reduce drug-related violence across the county.

Already more than 50 people have been arrested in Southampton for wide-ranging drugs and weapons offences.

The campaign is based on the Metropolitan police's Operation Trident, widely seen as an effort to combat Yardie crime.
