Grand Jacques, Nuffield Theatre, Southampton, 28 - 30 January

The Nuffield Theatre is coming over all continental next week with a two-night tribute to the music and life of one of France's most celebrated singer-songwriters, Jacques Brel.

The show will present many of Brel's best-loved songs, with French vocalist Alain Bezu taking the lead role.

He will be joined by fellow actor-musicians, pianist Phillippe Davenet and accordionist Bertrand Lemarchand.

Brel was an international celebrity whose songs were loved for their powerful lyrics and heartbreaking melodies.

He sang about love, war, justice, and most of all, humanity in a way which appealed to music fans of all generations and nationalities.

Grand Jacques has been a huge success in France and Brussels and after its stint in Britain will be touring Canada.

It is performed in French but with enough translation for those who learnt all their French from Allo, Allo to be able to fully enjoy the show.
