STUDENTS at Eastleigh's Barton Peveril College have created a special website as they explore the atrocities of the Holocaust.

Their in-depth studies of the horrendous events which shocked the world have been co-ordinated to mark the lead up to National Holocaust Remembrance Day on Sunday.

Through the week students have had the opportunity to look at displays around the college, including a photography exhibition by students.

They have been able to raise their awareness further by visiting the college's own Holocaust website created by the history and law department.

First year performing arts students have been studying Holocaust Theatre this term - examining films, opera and scripts written during and after the Holocaust.

The aim of National Holocaust Remembrance Day is not just of commemoration but of education with the hope that the day will provide a focus for learning and reflection.

The day also aims to raise awareness and understanding of the events of the Holocaust .

Teacher Mark Robinson said: "The students have responded well to the chance to study these issues and the memorial day is an excellent opportunity for everyone to reflect on topics which continue to have vital resonance today."
