DAVE COUSINS struck twice as Fareham eased their South Premier League relegation worries with a 3-1 win over Chichester.

It was Fareham's first win since mid-November and gives the Bath Lane club vital breathing space just above the danger zone.

"The win lifted us to seventh place (out of 12), but no one knows until the end of the season exactly how many clubs will be relegated.

"It looks as though Bromley and Oxford Hawks are coming down from the National League, which means two clubs will be relegated from the South Premier.

"We must keep away from the third from bottom position," said Steve Godwin, Fareham's relieved but still under pressure coach.

Cousins scored either side of half-time to give Fareham a two-goal cushion before Chichester hit back from a short corner.

Scott Shirley's third, ten minutes from time, sealed Fareham's 3-1 win.

Andover's prospects of avoiding the drop from the Hampshire/Surrey Regional Divisions received a boost with a 5-2 win over Old Mid Whitgiftians, who lost 6-2 to Hamble Old Boys a week earlier.

Despite struggling with a long-term shoulder injury, Andy Winnett was Andover's hat-trick hero.

Andover scored four times in 15 second-half minutes to overturn a 2-1 half-time deficit, with Richard Hoo and skipper Brendan Viggers also on target.

Hamble's impressive run continued with a 3-1 win over London Edwardians.

But Winchester fumbled a 1-1 draw against relegation-bound Wokingham, who avoided defeat for only the third time in 13 league outings.

"We're a long way off a championship side," groaned Dutch player-coach Merijn van Willgen.

Winchester scored first through Nick Tout, missed a fistful of chances and then paid the penalty as Wokingham equalised.
