DANIEL CROOK won Fareham Nomads' only gold medal at the annual Portsmouth Junior Sprint meet.

The event is aimed at swimmers aged between 10 and 14 years old.

The format gave the opportunity for swimmers to compete over 50m and 200m freestyle and 200m medley, and was designated for National Qualifying times - although boys under-14 and girls under-13 will not compete over 50m events at Nationals.

Much-improved Crook stormed to victory at the Victoria Swimming Centre when he clocked 30.45sec to touch home first in the 13 years' 50m butterfly.

Peter Hall got the club off to an excellent start with a national qualifying mark of 2min 6.14sec in the 200m freestyle for a silver medal.

Later in the meet, he achieved the national standard for the 200m medley with 2:23.03, also for silver, and he dipped under the 30-second mark for 50m backstroke - again for second.

Nick Barber also swam well in the 14 years' butterfly to take bronze over 50m in a personal best time of 29.43sec.

Other swimmers to make top six places included Jamie O'Donnell, Elizabeth Freemantle, Amy Rooney, Stuart Wass, Ben Loosemore, Sarah Warrener, Graham Holland, Adam Weston and Ben Swindells.

Nomads were one of the largest squads at the meet and between them achieved a total of 124 personal best times.
